People will swear it won’t start, but suddenly, it starts right up and drives fine. Other times, it would start normally with first turn of key! My Jeep would sometimes lose power while accelerating. I would pull over, turn key off and restart it and it would drive fine.

Research on the web show several examples of this same failure in hemi 5. 7l engines. The failure can occur anywhere from 50,000 miles to over 100,000 miles. The common cause is the lifter bearings failing and damaging the camshaft. Repairs range anywhere from $3000-5000.

Intermittent starting, sometimes takes 20-100 (+) tries to turn key and get it to crank. If I was in a hurry or had a passenger, it seemed to know and would take 5+ minutes turning key before it would crank and start! I joked it gave me ‘car-ple tunnel!’

It mainly did it going up hill or at around 40 mph at 1300 rpms. Just like the WK2 guys with the 3.6 engine. They are experiencing something similar with having to adjust the way they drive due to lack if power and not so good tuning. It’s going to surge/buck regardless what you do because of lack of power and tunning.

That’s only for the 4.6 and 5.7 Edit: Let me just say mine is going to buck/surge regardless what I did. I just had to adjust the way I drive it at certain times. It mainly did it going up hill or at around 40 mph at 1300 rpms. Just like the WK2 guys with the 3.6 engine.

In the Cherokee XJ you should fill the radiator with coolant and let the engine work and reach normal working temperature for at least 5-10 minutes. then, install the radiator cap in place, turn off the engine and fill the coolant bottle to the max.
