Why is there a brown dot in my eye?
Nevi can be yellow, brown, gray, or a combination of colors. They’re made by special cells called melanocytes, which give your skin and your eyes their color. Those cells are usually spread out, but if enough of them clump together, they form a nevus. The other type of eye freckles are called iris freckles.
Can brown spots in eyes be removed?
Yes, you can. At AEI, we remove Conjunctival Nevi for 2 common reasons: a suspicious appearance, or if they appear cosmetically undesirable to the patient. If melanoma is suspected, your eye doctor will recommend an excisional biopsy, in other words removing the pigmented lesion surgically.
Do eye freckles go away?
While most eye freckles remain noncancerous, it’s important to have an eye doctor monitor them. There is a small chance that they can develop into eye melanoma. The earlier you notice that a nevus starts to change, the sooner it can be treated — before it possibly turns into something more serious.
What do spots in your eyes mean?
Most eye floaters are caused by age-related changes that occur as the jelly-like substance (vitreous) inside your eyes becomes more liquid. Microscopic fibers within the vitreous tend to clump and can cast tiny shadows on your retina.
Do eye freckles grow?
Iris nevi grow larger with time. Like iris freckles, these nevi are usually benign (not cancerous). However, an ophthalmologist will monitor them over time for any changes. You can see both iris freckles and iris nevi with the naked eye, but an ophthalmologist will do an eye exam to determine which type you have.
How do I get rid of a spot on my eye?

- Never poke, squeeze, or try to pop a stye or a chalazion.
- Put a warm, damp cloth on your eye several times a day.
- Massage the swollen area gently to help drain the clogged gland.
- Once the bump drains, keep the area clean and keep your hands away from your eyes.
Can freckles turn into melanoma?
Congenital nevi occur in about one in 100 people. These moles are slightly more likely to develop into melanoma (cancer) than are moles that appear after birth. A mole or freckle should be checked if it has a diameter of more than a pencil eraser or any characteristics of the ABCDEs of melanoma (see below).
