Why is my motorcycle idling rough?
Symptoms. Carbon, oil residue and pitting on the spark plug electrodes will cause a weak or inconsistent spark, resulting in poor ignition and an inconsistent idle. A clogged air filter may not allow a sufficient amount of air into the combustion chamber, contributing to a rough idle.

Fuel and Mixture Checks
- Inspect the fuel in the tank for signs of water, dirt or rust flakes in the fuel tank.
- Remove and inspect the fuel filter.
- Remove the air filter.
- Inspect the intake manifold for cracks or deterioration that could be introducing air into the intake.
- Check the carburetor idle circuit for blockage.

Make sure your tank vent hose is not clogged or pinched. You are experiencing classic symptoms. As the volume of fuel in the tank decreases, the gravity feed to the carbs begins to draw a slight vacuum in the tank because it’s not allowing air in to displace the fuel.
