Why does the oil temp light keep coming on?

Most of the time it’s the fan control unit that is bad if that is the situation. If the light is on and the fan is running then I would guess a short somewhere. The fan control unit turns the fan on and off plus the oil temp light. I would guess the circuit for the temp light in the unit is messing up.

What does it mean when the temperature light comes on on a Honda?

If the light comes on and the cooling fan doesn’t then it is a big deal. That would mean the cooling system isn’t working properly and you run the chance of overheating it without knowing. If it’s just the systems check when the key switch is just switched to on then that is normal.

Why is oil temperature important for Honda engine?

Think of it as Honda trying to save you from yourself. In all engines, the engine’s clearances are significantly tighter, creating extreme amounts of stress on the engine’s internals and the piston rings will not have properly sealed with oil temps too low.
