Why do characters T-Pose in games?
The T-pose is primarily used as the default pose in animation software, which is then manipulated to create animations. Outside of being default poses in animation software, T-poses are typically used as placeholders for animations not yet completed, particularly in 3D animated video games.
Should you model in T-Pose?
Starting with a T-Pose for characters is bad – because it breaks both anatomy and topology. In another case, working on the basketball title NBA Ballers, the characters’ arms are almost always up – so modeling the arms held up and out to the front – or even stretched up over the head – could be helpful.

- select the mesh (with Skin modifier)
- in the main menu bar : Tools > Snapshot (options Single and Mesh)
- select the mesh with Skin modifier.
- Set Skin to Off (eye icon on modifier in the stack)
- add a Morpher modifier.
- slide it below Skin modifier.
Why do you need a character in T pose?
There are several possibilities where you need a character in T-pose: – In model sheets they serve as a reference for construction – a blueprint. Have you ever seen the blueprint of a house? It has no colors, lots of numbers and annotations and doesn’t look remotely as good as a photo of the finished house. It’s similar here.
What does the T pose mean in animation?

How to manually set a T-pose in 3D?
Manually Setting a T-pose If the character’s bone structure was made by you, and does not follow any character building convention found in other 3D editing tools, then you need to manually set the T-pose of the character. Select a bone of the character by clicking on the bone in the 3D viewer, or pick it in the scene tree.
Can you fix a T pose in Unity?
No – this is something that cannot be fixed in Unity, the correction for the rig needs to be done in 3D. While you are fixing that – might as well put the character in a proper T-pose.
