Why are my blinkers not running fast when I connect to the trailer?

My blinkers are not running fast when I connect to the trailer. I’ve seen that mentioned as a fairly common symptom. I’m thinking it’s either the vehicle flasher or the converter. Does the flasher have anything at all to do with the brake light? If not, then I’m guessing it’s the converter.

What are the running lights on a trailer?

The next thing is to make sure the wires on the trailer plug is wired properly to the trailer. If you have a 4-Way connector on the trailer the white wire is for ground, the green wire for right turn and brake, yellow wire for left turn and brake, and the brown wire is for running lights. I am including a link to a FAQ page on trailer wiring.

Why do trailer lights flicker on and off?

If the trailer lights flicker on and off, there is a good chance the trailer is grounding by way of the hitch instead of through the trailer’s wiring connector. Check to see if the vehicle ground wire is stacked with additional wires on a screw. If so, consider moving it to a screw of its own or at least move it to the stack bottom.

What should I do if my trailer lights are not working?

Open them up and make sure there is no white or green corrosion causing an issue inside the connectors. If so clean them out or replace the connectors with new ones. If the problem is not found in the connectors, you will need to follow the trailer wiring and check all of the grounds for all of the lights and the trailer connector.

Why are the lights on my trailer not working?

Most trailer wiring problems are the result of a bad ground. What I would do is start with the connectors. Maker sure the connectors on both the trailer side and vehicle side are free of dirt and corrosion and that they are properly grounded. Next, I would move on to testing the vehicle side connector using a circuit tester like # 40376.

What are the lights on the left side of the trailer?

Brown goes in the left hole (the lights are marked). The brown wire is the running lights. The yellow wire is left turn and brake light. The passenger side light should have a green and brown wire connected. The brown wire is the running lights. The green wire is right turn and brake light.
