Where is the hood release cable on a Toyota?
Welcome to the forums! There should be a screw fastening the hood release frame to the lower dash. You’ll probably have to lay on yer back to see it or you could just remove the panel and do it that way. The ball on the cable will “thread” through the handle.

The hood release would normally pull on a little piece from the right, so pushing from the left does the same thing. The third photo shows a view of the latch from above, but doesn’t show the target clearly: it’s below the large spring. You’ll have to follow the cable and estimate where it lines up. Drill a hole and stick a screwdriver through that hole. You want to push the release lever to yer right so you will have to push the screwdriver handle to the left. It might take a few tries to git it right.

I figure the most likely thing to break is the plastic pull handle where the cable ball attaches to. As you can tell…there are only 2 screws that attach it to the lower panel and the cable slides out of the bracket. It turns out it was the latch itself that was defective.

I had a broken hood release cable in my 2006 Prius, and got the hood open today. I thought I’d share some details. To get access to the latch, I pushed in the plastic grille below the bumper. It was already partially pushed in (presumably from parking too close to something sometime…), giving me the hint that it was movable.
