What was the problem with my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder?
I’ve had my 2005 since new, now close to 300,000km only problem was replace injectors at 140,000km due to poor fuel on Mitchell Plateau and a clutch at 200,000km , but then I tow 2.2tonne off road trailer. It’s been everywhere around and across Australia with no other issues.

The Pathfinder was beautiful to drive and reasonably good on fuel, had a nice transmission and was comfortable, not as comfortable as the Jeep but close. Car handles well but lacks ground clearance and articulation off road.

Known problem, yet Nissan charge over $3000 for a new kit. Suspension is dead after 100K kms and need replacement. Even driving in highway below 100 Km/h can’t bring fuel consumption below 11L / 100kms. despite Nissan claiming as little as 9L!
Can a 2WD Pathfinder be used for towing?
Since we also use the “Pathy” in pretty real outback, I am in favor of 4WD and use the LO range a bit. For pulling the TT 2WD would by just fine on the highway and any paved or level unpaved roads. it will also free up a few lbs. of towing capacity I understand although I do not see that Nissan makes a distinction.
How much weight is hitch on Nissan Pathfinder?
Unfortunately haven’t had a chance to camp since we bought it so no other experience towing it. Don’t know exactly the payload of the newer Pathys but even if the hitch weight says 395 lbs. you have to watch how much weight is on the front tongue with the cargo.
