What was the issue with my 1999 Kodiak 400?
This and foremost I am working on a 1999 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4×4 (Standard) (YFM400FWB-L)……. My friend dropped it off asking for me to look at it. Now the issue was that some of the wires were melted in the ATV and from what I can recall it was mostly ground wires.

How much power does a Yamaha Kodiak 400 have?
As soon as the key switch is turned on, the voltage drops to about 6.7V and SLOWLY trickles up to just over 7V. That is enough power to get about a half revolution of the motor with the electric start… then it dips back down to 6.7V.
What should I do if my Kodiak 4×4 wont start?
Start the 4×4 with the electric starter. If the plug has a normal strong, blue spark, then the ignition system is normal. If the spark is weak, adjust the gap or replace the plug. If there is no spark, have a mechanic check this out for you. Check the battery.
Is the Kodiak 400 CVT the same generation as the ATV?
Mite be wrong but I don’t think this atv is at all the same generation as yours. This is the old Gen air cooled, 5 speed 400 kodiak, and not the later Gen liquid cooled cvt 400 kodiaks. That is where I am doing a lot of guessing but the function of getting a spark should be generally the same.

I thought it would get DC current from the pickup or stator could but i am not reading any, and thats with the old stator and the new rm stator.

On the Pickup coil I got a peak around 247.2 ac, and on the Source coil I got 87.2 ac*I have also checked the spark plug cap and it is adding 10 ohms to the resistance values to the secondary coil reading. The only thing that gets me closes to a spark in playing with the on/off switch but as I said it checks out fine.*

What are the plugs on a Kodiak ATV?
To reset the screen to it’s normal size, hold down the Ctrl key and push 0 (zero). In case you cannot read it, the plug below items 32 & 33 in the diagram reads L/B, Br/W, -, Sb, from left to right.
