What substrate is best for Ackie Monitors?
Ackies Monitors love to burrow and needed a substrate to hold humidity and its shape. Zoo Med’s Eco earth when lightly compressed in the cage holds it shape and humidity nicely as do most coconut beddings and cypress chip bedding are all highly recommended .
Do Ackie Monitors need calcium?
They need a basking spot in their enclosure with a surface temperature of 120 to 150°F. The cooler side should have an ambient temperatures of 80 to 85°F. As daytime lizards, Ackies also need a UVB light to metabolize calcium.

They will search for an area with a temperature around 86 degrees Fahrenheit and suitable humidity to ensure hatching. Once a suitable site is found, she will remain in the burrow for two to three days. After laying is complete, she buries the eggs and burrow entrance by packing the substrate down with her head.
