The car in question is the Jetta in my sig. I’ve been watching my Scangauge recently and the water temp reading goes up to 227 F in city traffic. I was wondering if this isn’t a tad high. The temp needle, however, does not budge from 190 F, which should mean that all is well (assuming properly functioning sensors).

You can also measure the temperature of the coolant going from the head to the heater core. This is the primary cooling circuit which is regulated to 190F and has constant flow thru the engine.
