Can Bad terminals cause check engine light?
It is entirely possible that the battery was faulty causing low voltage at the computer, which in turn can turn on the check engine light. The other common issue is the battery terminals (GM uses side mount terminals) build up with corrosion and cause all kind of problems.

What’s the warning triangle light on the dash?

What does it mean when check engine light is on but no codes?
No code being generated on the reader does not mean the driver is in the clear. In fact, when the light is on, the odds are just as high that there has actually been something wrong for a while even if no code is generated.
What does the amber triangle on the dash mean?

The code being thrown indicated a problem with a DPF pressure sensor and the DPF was unable to fire as long as that light remained on.
