Is there a problem with the tailgate pump?
Filled the reservoir on the pump to just slightly above the + mark. Opened the Tailgate control module to see if any dry joints on solder connections or water damage. Looked ok, bit of damp creep on pcb, cleaned that up.
Is the tailgate on my Mercedes Benz working?
My tailgate has just started playing up this week. I’m having to either manually open or shut it in most cases. The latch mechanism is fine. I’ve accessed the motor/pump housing to inspect it, doesn’t look in great shape.

Started having problems with tailgate – it’s not opening (can hear the motor working, hatch releases and then shuts/locks again). Was sporadic, now it’s not opening at all and I have to use the inside lever to manually open it. Someone suggested cleaning the door jam and lubricate the hinges/all areas. That worked for a few days.

Current state the boot closes ok when tailgate button activated, but won’t raise. However earlier today it opened ok by the motor/pump, but had to be hand shut. (Didn’t hear motor engage)

Hallelujah! 🙂 Reconnect the connectors and now make sure the tailgate is pushed up all the way, turn on the ignition but don’t start the engine, and pull and hold the tailgate switch on the driver’s door in the open position for about 5 seconds. Did that. It did not go down. Out of luck?

The pump is located under the spare tire in a small plastic box. There are a few optional repairs to be done while you are here. First, check the condition of the bolts that attach the ram bracket to the tailgate. These are notorious for shearing off after they work themselves loose.
