Is NASA really working on a warp drive?
NASA is obviously still working out the kinks of their warp drive, but perhaps it’s only a matter of time before at least neighboring star systems, like Proxima Centauri, will be in reach for human crews. Until then, we can only look at the furthest stars using our telescopes.
Is warp theory possible?
Warp drives are theoretically possible if still far-fetched technology. Two recent papers made headlines in March when researchers claimed to have overcome one of the many challenges that stand between the theory of warp drives and reality.
Is warp speed a real thing?
General Relativity states that space and time are fused and that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. General relativity also describes how mass and energy warp spacetime – hefty objects like stars and black holes curve spacetime around them. “Star Trek” took this idea and named it the warp drive.
Is Lightspeed possible?
So will it ever be possible for us to travel at light speed? Based on our current understanding of physics and the limits of the natural world, the answer, sadly, is no. So, light-speed travel and faster-than-light travel are physical impossibilities, especially for anything with mass, such as spacecraft and humans.
Why is FTL impossible?
Because the concept of “speed” requires measuring a certain amount of distance traveled in space during a certain period of time, the concept of speed does not even physically exist beyond the speed of light. In fact, the phrase “faster than light” is physically meaningless.
Are wormholes possible?
Wormholes are consistent with the general theory of relativity, but whether wormholes actually exist remains to be seen. Theoretically, a wormhole might connect extremely long distances such as a billion light years, or short distances such as a few meters, or different points in time, or even different universes.
How fast is Transwarp speed?
Transwarp speeds
Travel method | Average speed (× c) | Travel time |
---|---|---|
Transwarp conduit | 876,000 | about fifteen minutes |
Transwarp coil | 1,000,000 – 10,000,000 | some days |
Transwarp network Transwarp hub | > 250,000,000 | around five minutes |
Transwarp threshold | infinite | 0 |
Is the NASA warp drive a real thing?
There are many “absurd” theories that have become reality over the years of scientific research. But for the near future, warp drive remains a dream. If you would like to know more about the theories of interstellar flight, you should visit the Tau Zero Foundation . Marc Millis, a former NASA Glenn physicist,…
How does a warp drive work on a ship?
Warp drive, of course! If a spaceship could be designed in such a way that it created a warp bubble, then the space in front of the ship would be compressed and the space behind would expand. This would result in space-time moving around the object, repositioning the ship without it actually moving.
Who was the first person to design a warp ship?
Rademaker designed the first theoretical warp ship concept to consciously echo the Matt Jeffries design for the UEV-47; the first faster-than-light version of the Starship Enterprise. This new version of the ship is chunkier, more compact, and according to Harold White,…
What’s the name of the new NASA Starship?
NASA unveils its futuristic warp drive starship – called Enterprise, of course. This new version of the ship is chunkier, more compact, and according to Harold White, a better match for what the mathematics of an Alcubierre warp drive currently predict.
