Is it wrong to replace one front strut at a time?
I agree with common sense answer and prior comments about it being wrong to replace 1 strut. Struts and shocks, front or rear, are replaced in pairs. The ONLY exception to this would be if for some fluke reason a strut failed on your Mazda when it was almost new (say 5-10k miles on it) and it was a warranty issue.
Where are the shock absorbers and struts located?
Strut suspension usually has the shock absorber and the spring in one unit, with the top of the strut mounted very high in the car body and the bottom of the strut attached to the lower control arm. This lowers the vehicle center of gravity, which is a good thing.
What happens when your suspension is worn out?
When the shocks are worn out, you’re likely to feel the vehicle body lurching forward and downward nose-first when you apply the brakes firmly. This can actually affect your ability to stop the car quickly (a bad suspension can increase stop time by up to 20 percent). 4. Uneven tire treads Take a look at your tires.
Why do you need shocks and struts on your car?
Shocks and struts are an integral part of your suspension system. They work to prevent suspension parts and tires from wearing out prematurely. If worn, they could jeopardize your ability to stop, steer and maintain stability.
Can a broken front strut Cause a broken suspension?
Just as in the case above, a failure of the shock will result in your suspension not meeting the standards. If your car feels more bouncy and bumpy than before, your front or rear shocks of the strut may be worn out or, in the worst case, broken.
What are the symptoms of a bad front strut?
6 Symptoms of a Bad Front or Rear Strut. 1 Knocking Noises on bumps. 2 Car Height Tilted on one side. 3 Clinging sound when turning (Front Strut) 4 Bouncy Suspension. 5 Unstable car. 6 Uneven Wear of Tires.
Do you need an alignment after replacing shocks and struts?
On some vehicles, the installation of new shocks and struts may affect your car’s wheel alignment. However, there are some instances where alignment is not required after replacing the struts or shocks.
Why are struts important to the suspension of a car?
A strut in a vehicle is an integral member of its suspension. It can have an effect on the overall drivability of your vehicle. When you drive your car on the road, you are bound to hit speed bumps, potholes and other obstacles along the way. The effect of these hindrances is absorbed by suspension parts that give you a smooth and pleasant ride.
