How does fuel get out of the injection pump?
The fuel is dispersed from the injection pump to the combustion chamber via a fairly simple process. Pressurized fuel enters the fuel injector. Based on a signal from an electrically controlled solenoid valve – the solenoid valve acts as a type of on / off valve – the fuel enters a plunger, which prepares the fuel for the final exit.
Can a diesel fuel pump injector be clogged?
Diesel fuel pump injectors are high-precision components. They also deal with a tremendous amount of motion and other stresses. One small visitor inside (a piece of dust, debris, etc.) can clog the injector. Worse yet, a microscopic object can leave the injector open all the time. If the injector can’t close, cylinder performance is compromised.

Over time, residue can build up in the fuel system, and enough gunk, grime and grease can clog up the entire fuel injector pump. Can a TEF-20 have no fuel injectors?
However, it is not uncommon for people to contact us saying they have fuel to the injection pump but cannot get fuel to the injectors. Recently an owner of a TEF-20 wrote in thinking he must be doing something wrong, but he didn’t know what. To use the gentleman’s own words, he was “completely goosed“!
What should I do if my fuel injector is stuck?
Don’t force it or you will break it, only apply gentle hand pressure to try and move it. If it is stuck then don’t tap or hit it as it will damage it. You would need to take it to a diesel engineers to have the seized element replaced if you have no luck.
