put guide on anchor. place SA arm with pivot on rear shoe with nail, tube washer & straight spring Add actuator link, follow with overide spring from arm to pivot (next pic) Place return spring under SA arm. note placement of pivot and link Press shoes against anchor. Install front shoe return spring to anchor.
Can a drum brake be refaced or replaced?
Note: some brake drums are held on with screws so you will need to remove those first. Once the drum is off take a look at it. It should be refaced or replaced if it is scored. Drum brakes have a bunch of springs and levers for the self-adjuster and parking brake.
Is there a self adjusting drum brake system?
Some drum brake systems don’t have a self-adjusting mechanism. Manually adjusted systems usually have a square adjuster at the back of the assembly. Winding this out as far as possible may help to get a badly worn or scored drum over the brake shoes.

Put the spoon end over that post above the wheel cylinder, lift/pry the spring onto the post. It will slide down the tool and onto the post. Repeat this process for the othre spring. I wish I had a video of how I learned to do this as it’s difficult at best as to describe how to do it.

Many drums will become coated in a thin oily film to prevent them from rusting during shipping and storage.
