Further to my previous item, I am now in a position to change the oil in my 2.5 Auto gearbox. Jaguar are now recommending 10 years or 150,000 miles to change the oil in the ‘sealed for life’ gearbox. My local authorised Jaguar service centre has indicated that the job takes just one hour, as indicated by Jaguar.

REPLY: No Jaguar dealer will recommend changing the transmission fluid due to the overall policy that these units are sealed for life, a life we all know can be considerably shortened by dirty fluid, even though servicing the box will invalidate any remaining warranty.

When to change transmission fluid on a Jaguar?

If you ring ZF, even they will say that the fluid should be changed by 70,000 miles. As most people know, “sealed for life” just means that the fluid is designed to last for 60,000 miles so that Jaguar could reduce the calculated cost of ownership for 60,000 miles by not needing a gearbox fluid change.
