Backwards clutch is not your problem. A clutch disc that is in backwards will not allow the clutch to disengage. It will act as if you are not stepping on the pedal. The engine will always be linked to the tranny.

You can only pick it up with one hand on 1 side off the disc. Then, with your 1 hand set the disc on the flywheel. This is the correct orientation of the disc. And, yes, you can install it backwards… the clutch will not release.
