Can I run my bike with choke on?
The main reason that we advise not riding with the choke on is that it can be harmful to your motorcycle. Overfuelling can cause a variety of problems for your bike, from it running hotter than usual to the pistons being damaged by excessive heat through misfires.
Why does your motorcycle only run on choke?
Fuel goes bad after time, and the first circuit/jet to clog with varnished up fuel is the pilot jet. This circuit delivers fuel for idle, and has the smallest passages found in carburetors.
Why does my Virago motorcycle not run without a choke?
I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong with my Virago 250cc. It will only run if you have the choke on. If you let it off the choke the engine switches off. I originally thought that maybe the carbs were dirty. I ran some Seafoam through the fuel system, but it didn’t seem to help.
Why does my Generator only run with the choke on?
A choke is active when it is closed;that is, it is on when it is closed. Normally you would keep it on (closed) until the engine warms up and then turn it off (open). If it really won’t run without the choke being closed/on then it’s not getting enough fuel and the carbs probably need cleaning.

Is it possible to pull carbs backwards on a bike?
Next, put the bike on it’s centerstand and straddle it facing forward. Put your right hand on the right-most carburetor and your left hand on the left-most carburetor and get ready to sweat. Sometimes you’ll be able to pull the carbs straight backwards nice and easy, but that is pretty rare.
