I have had frequent coolant problems. The car is prone to overheating, even in winter. The coolant tank was replaced a few months ago, and I haven’t had problems since then. The car has heated driver and passenger seats, although I have not used that feature. It responds well to both acceleration and breaking.

My 2005 C6 A6 will NOT shift into first gear until I fully stop the car — a rolling stop, no matter how slow, simply keeps the car in second. Then, it lags when I press the accelerator. My 1997 A8 did this, my 1999 A6, 2000 A6 4.2, 2001 A6 4.2 ditto.

I have the 2004 model. After 11 years and a great ( indy VW) mechanic and regular maint. and oil changes, I’ve had minimal costly repairs. Maybe, I’m in the minority but I’m holding on to it, with just 115,000. My last VW went past 200,000. Don’t believe all the myths about these cars!!!

Same with the transmissions. 2004’s had issues with the torque converters (and some 2005’s), and a bad TQ can take out the transmission. Some people have had their transmission go bad at 100k, some haven’t had a problem at over 200k.
