Why was the 911 Carrera RSR called the R5?
Bear with us. The 911 Carrera RSR prototypes built by Porsche for the 1973 World Sports Car Championship were all given codenames beginning with ‘R’ and served two purposes: to win races and act as rolling testbeds for new technological evolutions.
What was the year of the Porsche 911 Carrera?
Check out the stuff a Porsche engineer unloaded during the recent introduction of the revamped, 2002 911 Carrera: Porsche in 1997 discarded wheel studs and lug nuts and opted for bolts to secure wheels to hubs. Pressing the studs into the axle stubs deformed the hub face enough to induce brake shudder in a few cars.
Is the 911 Carrera still a flat six?
It’s still a flat-six, but now, thanks to numerous additions, it pumps out 315 horsepower at 6800 rpm – 15 more horses than the 2001 car. Eighty percent of the engine internals were changed to find the new power, and the flat-six retains LEV status and current fuel economy.
Is it safe to remove transmission from Porsche 911 Carrera?
You’ll be working around electrical connections while you’re under the car. It just makes sense to be safe and prevent any possible damage to both you and the car. Secondly, jack the car up and support all four corners on jackstands. You’ll want to have the car as high up in the air as possible here to help with clearance.

When to replace IMS bearing on Porsche 911 Carrera?
As stated in the previous section, the failure mode of this bearing is not well known–if it’s swapped out and replaced every 30,000-45,000 miles when the clutch is renewed, it should protect your engine from problems. The kit uses a single-row bearing, just like the later-style Porsche design.
When to change clutch on Porsche 911 Carrera?
The kit is designed so that the bearing replacement can be performed during a routine clutch replacement (see Pelican Technical Article: Clutch Replacement on the Porsche 911 Carrera ). Changing out the bearing during each clutch job will ensure that the bearing is fresh and not wearing prematurely.
