Why are the spark plugs on my Polaris 500 turning black?
It keeps dry fouling the plugs, they are jet black. It was running fine then all of a sudden started doing this. Checked spark and it looks good, any advice?

Why is my Polaris cutting out at 1 / 2 throttle?
I had the same problem last year it was running great and started to cut in and out at 1/2 throttle. I messed with jets and cleaned the carb. By accident I bumped the positive lead on the battery and noticed it moved. Problem was solved. I quess it was getting enough juice to start but not when the rpms went up.

I swapped the plug figureing i fouled it when i couldn’t get it to start. Didn’t help. I drained the fuel and added fresh, didn’t help. Removed the fuel filter, didn’t help.

When you put the bike/ATV away for winter with fuel in the tank, you need to put the proper amount of Stabil or Sea Foam (or similar fuel preservative) in the tank, run the engine for five minutes or longer to circulate the preservative through the entire fuel system, then drain the carb bowls. That will prevent what you are dealing with now.

Thanks guy for the advice! If you are running an open air filter you definetly need to get that air/fuel screw cap off and adjust it. You should porbably get a bigger pilot jet as well. I ran a 50 pilot on the stock carb with an open air filter and it ran great.

Having the choke on and idles proves it is NOT the CDI. The CDI doesn’t know when the choke is on. I’d dump some seafoam in it and go run the piss outta it, bet after a half tank or so it’ll clean right up. There are teeny tiny passages in the side of the pilot jet that get plugged up.
