Why does my BMW start in eco mode?

Is there a default setting for comfort on a 116i?
If manual and standard suspension, the “Comfort” setting really only changes throttle response (and steering weight?), which with all due respect may not have such a huge effect on an 116i. PS: If I could ask for a default setting, it would be to have the “stop/start” off by default, that infuriates me.
