Popular car designer Dilip Chhabria has been granted bail by the Esplanade magistrate court in Mumbai, after over three months of his arrest by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch in connection with a car financing and forgery scam worth at least Rs 40 crore.

It was alleged that Chhabria was involved in multiple scams. The police found that many of the Avantis that were sold had the same engine and chassis number. It was also alleged that Chhabria used to buy his own cars under different names and took loans for the same from Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFC).
