When did Honda change the clutch on the CB750?
Around 1975 (This is a ’76 pictured) Honda introduced some revisions to help cure the clutch rattle these bikes are known for,and also to give a smoother engaging clutch. The revision for a smoother clutch was the addition of a larger outside clutch plate.
Why is the swirled clutch on a CB750 SOHC?
The swirled design was to used to maintain oil in the clutch longer.Due to the rotation of the engine and the swirled driection of the pucks they retain oil for a longer period of time forcing the oil to ”drain” out of the way slower,thus a slower/smoother engaging clutch.
What do you do when your clutch rattles?
A rattle that persists when the clutch is locked up can most times be quieted with beefier springs. Its cheap and usually works. More discs would exacerbate the problem, so going that route is questionable.

Is it normal for a primary clutch to rattle?
Should they, no….do they, yes. Most likely your buttons/o-rings are worn…..the buttons get grooves worn in the side where they seat into the governor cup. Also, excessive slop in arms, either bushing-to-pin or side to side will make noise.
Why does my primary case on my Harley make a rattling noise?
The other day I returned it to the dealer for a rattling/banging noise in the primary case. The dealer confirmed the noise and said that it is probably the compensator nut. They took the bike in, disassembled the primary and did not find anything wrong.
