Can a misaligned body cause a tailgate to open?
A misaligned body around the rear could potentially hinder the tailgate closing. It is not a false positive to get the warning of the tailgate being open on the DIC (centre of the instruments): if any of the doors are open, the car will know about it and that will be shown on the display.
How can I tell if my cargo bay tailgate is open?
With the tailgate open, check around the edges of the cargo bay entry very closely. Also check that a strut has not come away from its mounting: if it does, it will prevent the tailgate from closing. The hook on the face of the tailgate base should be examined to be satisfied it is neither lose nor damaged.
