Does the GAT affect your Atar?
Although GAT results do not count directly towards a student’s VCE results, they play an important role in checking that school assessments and examinations have been accurately assessed. If students have done well on the GAT, then their achievements are likely to be high in their school assessments and examinations.
How do you read GAT results?
The standardised score is calculated and reported using the same scale that is used for Study Scores from 0 to 50 with a mean of 30 and a standard deviation of 7. A student’s Statement of Results shows whether they sat for the GAT and, if they didn’t, whether or not their absence was authorised.

The raw study score is the ranking of your performance relative to all other students who studied the same subject that year. If you have a study score of 40, then you’ve performed better than about 91% of all students who took the same subject.
