What is a steering lock emulator?
The emulator simulates the operation of the ESL – electronic steering lock in a car. The emulator automatically adapts to the car. The emulator is a diagnostic device.
What is electric steering lock?
The electronic steering lock or ESL prevents the vehicle from being steered unless the correct key is present in the car or the ignition switch. You turn off the vehicle, run inside your home to get an item and then when you return to start your vehicle nothing happens.
What does an ESL emulator do?
This new generation of ESL emulators by MBE Engineering was developed to let you replace faulty or broken ESL (steering lock) in Mercedes-Benz vehicle in order to drive it to workshop. Simply unplug original ESL (steering lock) and plug our emulator in place.
Can you force the steering column lock on a car?
DO NOT TRY TO FORCE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. The steering column lock is a security feature which all car manufacturers incorporate in the cars. If you don’t have and can’t get a spare key, it seems that official roadside assistance companies (your local equivalent of the AA or RAC in the UK) can bypass such locks in manufacturer approved ways.
How to change the steering lock on a Mercedes Benz?
With the steering shaft unlocked leave the key in the ignition and disconnect the ground cable on the battery (red arrow). You will need to remove the gauge cluster so please see our article on gauge cluster removal. You also need to remove the airbag and steering wheel.

Why does my new Mercedes key not work?
Went to Mercedes changed battery nothing, ordered new key and again nothing they ordered another I case faulty and still nothing but tried my old key and all of a sudden it works the ignition but not the door locks. I’m confused as my car worked perfectly fine before my son put keys in cuppa tea so why wouldn’t a new key from Mercedes work?
