The ignition coil wiring harness holds the wires that connect the ignition box to the ignition coils. The harness is constructed of heat-resistant material that allows the wires to be secured against vibrations and abrasions in the vehicle.
How do you test a coil pack wiring harness?
Bench Test (Coil Wire is Uninstalled)
- Connect your ohmmeter or multimeter to the primary studs of the coil. When you look at the coil, the primary studs will be sticking out the top and look something like two bolts or poles.
- Make note of the reading on the ohmmeter.
- Connect the ohmmeter to the secondary winding.
What wire is used for ignition coils?
They usually required only three wires: the spark plug wire, the power wire and the ignition switch wire. Ignition coils of this type are usually a little larger than a soda can and are heavy because of the metal core and the field coil windings.
How can you tell if a coil wire is bad?
If the engine stops and starts erratically while driving, or if it cuts out altogether and refuses to restart, you may have a bad wire between the coil and the distributor. Constant movement, caused by engines vibration and the wire’s tendency to flex slightly, fatigues the wire’s central core.
