Is the Mauser a good pistol?
The C96 is not a very good pistol. It’s large and heavy, and has a weird way of loading for a handgun, and kind of odd controls. It also has a very well-deserved nickname “broomhandle” because of the not particularly comfortable grip. The C96, however, is an excellent compact rifle.
