- Connect the positive (red) voltmeter test lead to the battery’s positive terminal.
- Connect the negative (black) voltmeter test lead to the battery’s negative terminal.

I’m sure I’ve read somewhere the main battery is the usual sealed lead acid battery and can be charged as normal, the secondary battery is a lithium ion battery and has it’s own dedicated charging system and attempting to charge it any other way will permanently damage it.
