How do you reset an Acorn stair lift?
To reset, turn the power switch off (located on the stairlift) for 30 seconds (see page 16). Batteries low (17 volts or less) re charge batteries. Try a reset. If this does not clear the display and the lift fails to operate, call your ACORN representative for further instructions.
How long do stair lift batteries last?
3-5 years
Most new stair lift batteries will run well for 3-5 years, but this can vary depending on usage. Most manufacturers recommend that the batteries receive some daily use to keep them active.
How noisy is a stair lift?
Stairlifts run on a low voltage battery supply. This makes them extra quiet when in use. Virtually soundless, the noise they make is equivalent to the hum of a kitchen microwave. Before you start your journey on the stairs, your stairlift will emit a loud beep.
Why does my stairlift keep stopping?
When a stairlift keeps stopping and starting every few inches it’s nearly always the batteries. They’ve completely drained and can no longer be re-charged so need replacing by an engineer. We supply and fit these at a cost, or cover them under our 12 month maintenance contract.
Why is my stairlift not moving?
If your stairlift still does not move: Turn the power key to the off position and then back on. Move and hold the control in the direction of travel for a few seconds after which the stairlift should start. If the stairlift still doesn’t work at this point call your local branch.
Can you repair an office chair?
If the lift mechanism in your office chair needs repair but the upholstery portion is still in good shape, don’t toss the chair. Fix it! You can replace an office chair gas cylinder yourself for about $40 (one source for office chair parts is swivel-chair-parts.com). Rebuilding the lift mechanism is a two-part process.
Why is my chairlift beeping?
Most stairlifts will beep to let you know that they are off charge. This to avoid the batteries draining completely leaving you unable to use the stairlift at all. If your stairlift does start to beep, make sure: the stairlift is parked correctly at the top or bottom of the stairs on it’s charge point.

When do the control arms need to be replaced?
Another reason to replace a control arm is when it has been damaged or bent after hitting a pothole or curb. The choice of whether to replace only a ball joint or bushings or the entire control arm often depends on the price, the overall condition of the arm and part availability. What is more cost-effective?
How do you change the bushing on a control arm?
Insert the pry bar between the frame and the lower control arm. Pry out on the control arm while observing the bushings and the shaft that passes through the bushings. Replace any bushings that are damaged or allow the lower control arm to move.
What should I do if my control arm fails?
Cheap knock-off control arms, ball joints and other suspension components are known to fail prematurely. After a control arm is replaced, in most cases, the wheel alignment needs to be performed to bring the steering and suspension angles back to within the specifications.
