How do you preload a bearing?
The simplest method of applying preload is to use a wave spring. The spring acts on the outer ring of one of the two bearings. This outer ring must be able to be axially displaced. The preload force remains practically constant, even when there is axial displacement of the bearing as a result of thermal elongation.
How are wheel bearings set up in tapered bearings?
Only the outer races are pressed into the hub in a tapered bearing set up. The rollers, cage and inner race are not a part of it and therefore can be removed separately.
What do you need for a trailer wheel bearing kit?

What kind of bearings did Harley Davidson use?
Up until 1999, the motor company used conventional, serviceable Harley wheel bearings. These were high quality bearings made by Timken. They were packed with grease and set against a bearing race with a wheel bearing seal on the outside end of the wheel hub to block out the elements and seal in grease.

What do I need to replace wheel bearings on a trailer?

Where are the bearings on a 3 / 4 wheel?
The reason, I believe, is because the bearing on the rotor side (left side) sits above of the hub surface on the 1″ wheel (factory wheel w/1″ bearings) and the bearing on the 3/4″ wheel (factory wheel w/ 3/4″ bearings) sits below the surface of the hub on the rotor side (left side). So, it’s this difference that makes the 3/4″ spacer too short.
Why are tapered axle bearings used in cars?
Tapered axle bearings are better for continuous use in applications where side loading is frequently encountered. Circle track and street/strip vehicles often use tapered axle bearings for their ability to resist the sheer force associated with continuous and intense cornering.
What kind of bearings do I need for a 25mm wheel?
The hubs made for 1″ bearings are the same depth on each side like the 3/4″ wheels are. I ordered a custom length bearing spacer 4.875″ long for 3/4″ bearings to fit in a 25mm wheel. The only other thing I will need is a shorter axle spacer on the rotor side for the wheel to line up correctly between the forks. I hope this is it!
