What to do when your lift gate is open?
Remove the screws from lower trim panel Using a trim stick or another suitable wide flat-bladed tool, carefully pry the trim panel away from the inside of the liftgate to release the push-in plastic fasteners that secure the panel to the liftgate. Pull the trim panel away from the liftgate.

What to do if your WJ liftgate won’t open?
The door lock actuator is pretty cheap all considering and VERY easy to swap out on the wj liftgate… usually if you hear a whine, buzz noise its too late, the actuator is gone and this is generally the first step. There is like 1 torx screw 1 connector and it twists out of the door skin.
