Can you hike Maligne Canyon for free?
During my warm-weather visit to the Canadian Rockies in 2009, there were plenty of times when I wondered what everything would look like, if I came for a visit in winter. But there was one place that seemed especially captivating.
How do you get to Maligne Canyon ice Walk?
The majority of Ice Walks begin at the Fifth Bridge, which offers fairly easy access to Maligne Canyon’s amazing winter experience. You can also gain access by starting at the 1st or 2nd bridges and hiking down past the fourth bridge. Parks has placed new entry gates in places to offer safer access.
Is Johnston Canyon frozen?

The Maligne Canyon trail is a single large loop with several optional side trails. Round-trip distance on the main loop, from parking lot 11 (at the restaurant), is 4.4 kilometres. Time on the trail: 2-4 hours.

Yes. Yes, it is. On the opening weekend of the Moraine Lake Rd, tourists were greeted by a very shallow water level in the lake awaiting melt from the mountains to fill it up to its pristine greenness.
Do you need hiking boots for Banff?
At a minimum, you’ll want to wear a good pair of waterproof hiking shoes or hiking boots. For hiking in Banff in spring, we recommend leaving your everyday shoes at home. If you’re worried about getting your pants muddy, you can consider wearing some gaiters.
