Revving the engine is often necessary to keep the engine running, as many engines built to high performance often idle so rough they will die if not revved; it also helps prevent stalling the engine at the drop of the green. Well, no, its top speed is unaffected by its idle, fast or slow.

Why does my car rev up at a stop sign?
When I am stopped at a stoplight or stop sign, my car’s engine unexpectedly revs up. If I put it in neutral or park, it subsides. It happens only occasionally, sometimes months apart. I have reported this to Honda on two occasions, and have brought it in for a testing procedure. Both test sequences came up with nothing. I don’t know what to do.
