What should the bolt holes be for a vertical flange?

Can you deviate from the bolt hole orientation?
It is very important, that is not deviated from the standard bolt hole orientation. Only on explicit request, e.g. of the customer, may be a different orientation be applied. In 99 percent of all cases, where you will see a different orientation, you can assume that it is a mistake.
How do you check the tightness of a bolt?
Marked fastener method: Marking the position of the bolt/nut relative to the joint, untightening it by an angle of approximately 30 degrees, then measuring the torque needed to tighten the bolt back to the marked position. Each of these three methods have their deficiencies.

Is it possible to over rotate a bolt?
Over rotation is not a cause for rejection or rework. Compensating for over rotation, by backing the nut off, will result in less than the required pretension. While it is recommended that the bolt, nut, and steel be marked and inspected prior to Turn-Of-Nut implementation, this step is not mandatory.
