What sensor controls the radiator fan?
coolant temperature sensor
On most modern cars, the cooling fan is controlled by the Engine Control Unit (ECU) which gets a signal from the coolant temperature sensor.
Does the fan always run when the AC is on?
The fan only runs when the system is on and not continuously. There is better dehumidification in your home during the summer months. When your fan is set to AUTO, moisture from cold cooling coils can drip and be drained outside. It blows back into your home and your AC works hard to remove extra moisture from the air.
Can Autozone test a relay?
A relay can be checked with a jump cable, a voltimeter, an ohmimeter or a test light. If the terminals are accessible and the relay is not controlled by a computer, the fastest method will be a jump cable and a test light.
What happens when a relay goes bad?
Burned relay: In certain instances, it may be possible for the relay to overheat to the point of burning up and melting. Apart from cutting off power to the vehicle’s ignition relay and causing performance issues, a burnt relay may melt onto the fuse panel.
What happens when you turn off the AC relay?
When the relay energizes it creates a magnetic field that pulls the contact closed. Turning off the power to the relay collapses the field and the switch becomes naturally open. There are many different reasons that a relay can fail to operate. When the part itself fails, look into possible causes like corrosion buildup between the contacts.
What kind of car has bad AC relay?
Honda automobiles like the Accord, Civic and Honda Pilot make this list. In fact, the last Accord I worked on also needed a Honda VTec Solenoid replaced. Surprisingly, the once bulletproof Toyota product line also has a high rate of AC relay failure in the Camry and Corolla models.
What happens if you have a bad cooling fan relay?
The check engine light illuminating may indicate a faulty cooling fan relay. A faulty cooling fan relay can also negatively affect air conditioning (A/C) performance. The reason being, on most vehicles, is that the cooling fan doubles as a condenser fan.
Why are the fans not working on my Subaru Legacy?
The car is over heating. Heater working, coolant is clean but noticed fans weren’t turning. Checked the main and sub fuses, they look good but can’t understand why fans aren’t working? Is this the cause of the overheating? Is there a master switch for the fans? Do they need to be replaced? (the fans that is) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
