What to do if your Honda rancher 420 is not shifting?
Take the emergency shifter located under the seat on the 420. While the atv is still running, manually shift it back in to neutral and shut it off. It should be reset once you turn it back on and re start. Thats how mine was until i replaced the sensor. Be sure to use dielectric grease on the sensor plug.

Long blinks are x10 and the shorts are the number of actual blinks. Ex. 2 long blinks and 4 short blinks gives you a code 24 (2×10+4=24). I thought I posted this already but must not of..so here it is. I had a machine come in today with multiple problems. Code 24 was one of them and it turned out to be a dirty shift motor (brush was stuck).

Makes a noise (clicking) that sounds like it is trying to get into gear but can’t.

Okay the 2 long flashes that is 20 ( each long flash equals 10 ) and the 2 short equals 2 so that is code 22. Code 22 is the Shift Angle Sensor, water may hvae got in it, defective or bad connection. I would replace the angle sensor and see if that fixes the problem.
