Is there a way to replace the seal on the sunroof?

I’ve read many threads about leaking sunroofs. I know this is within normal limits, however when the rubber seal gets old (my 04), or gets damaged there should be a way to replace the seal without replacing the entire sunroof. I’ve not seen anything about where to buy, or how to replace the seal.

What happens if you have a leak in your sunroof?

Whether it’s dripping or gushing water, a sunroof leak can create a mess and damage your car’s interior. While you may assume that the rubber seal on your sunroof is damaged and needs repair, oftentimes the culprit isn’t the seal at all.

Where are the small holes in the sunroof?

These are very small holes, usually at the corners of the sunroof just under the seal. Blast compressed air through the drain tubes located at the base of the sunroof seal. These tubes are designed to carry water that gets through the roof down and out of the car.

What causes water to build up in a sunroof?

Look for cracks or jagged edges along the sunroof seal. Some seals will slowly dry out and crack over time due to exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Scan the area around the seal for any pooling water or mold. Some seals will sag or lose their shape, causing water to build up in the seal’s trough.

Why do I have a leak in my sunroof?

You should also wipe down the seals to make sure there isn’t anything stuck to them that could create an opening when the sunroof is closed. While a faulty seal could be the reason for your leak, the most common cause of a leaky sunroof is a clog in the drainage system that carries water away.

Where are the drain tubes in a sunroof?

Locate your sunroof’s drains. Depending on your particular vehicle, there could be up to four of them, and they’d be located in the corners of the sunroof opening. They lead to tubes that carry liquid through the windshield frame to the bottom of the vehicle.
