Is there a problem with the VW Jetta transmission?
This only happens when the car is cold, and only the first time it is shifted. There is confusion among the VW dealers and the VW mechanics I’ve called about this. Most don’t know if this is a problem or not; one mechanic suggested that this is a normal condition in the 04 Jetta.
Can a 2002 Jetta 1.8T go into reverse?
2002 Jetta 1.8t manual. Will not go into reverse. drops down into position but moves forward. I will try some of the fixes listed below such as placing the car in neutral with the clutch up then shifting to reverse. Turning car off shift into reverse and start.
Why does my VW Jetta hesitate on cold starts?
Apparently the hesitation in gear engagement on cold starts is a design feature intended to responds to emission concerns. I would appreciate any insight into this that will help me decide if this is a problem or not. Thank you. “one mechanic suggested that this is a normal condition in the 04 Jetta” Ask him to show you another 04 that does it.

How to check and fill VW Jetta transmission fluid?
Once the VW Jetta automatic transmission fluid service is finished, the transmission fluid level need to be confirmed and possibly topped off. Checking the transmission level is done with diagnostic software and through a level insert tube a few inches long mounted into the fill plug / port.
When do you switch gears on a Jetta?
When I first got the car it would switch gears between 1 and 2 rpms but now it is going between 3 and 4 before it switches and it sounds like the car is working double time to go.
What causes a jerky shift on a Jetta?
You could be waiting too long between shifts, allowing the engine revs to drop down to idle. both these habits would cause a jerky kind of shift. See if you can get a volunteer to shift your car better than you can. If nobody can do that, they maybe it’s not you. I have a 2006 Jetta with automatic transmission that shifts very roughly from 1-2.
Why does my VW Jetta clutch keep leaking?
Another thing which could be happening which is also fairly normal is with the rubber clutch piston seals. When cold, these rubber piston seals harden, when hard, they tend to leak. When clutch piston seals leak they cause the clutch itself to be slow in applying. This condition worsens as the transmission gets older and gets up there in mileage.
