Is there a problem with my Toyota 4Runner?

Why does my 4Runner have a check engine light?
It doesn’t necessarily mean there is an issue with those systems. If they all showed up at the same time, it’s likely that diagnosing the cause for the Check Engine light will fix them all. Modern OBD2 vehicles can be very sensitive to minor problems and that’s especially the case with the 4runner.
When do VSC off and VSC Trac Lights Come On?
“VSC Off” and “VSC TRAC” lights will often come on when an error code triggers the Check Engine light. It doesn’t necessarily mean there is an issue with those systems.
Why did Toyota turn off the VSC system?
Sounds dumb to me A detected engine problem could mean many things, so Toyota decided to kill anything that could be an additional load on the engine including the VSC system since it causes braking (the ABS does still work though). I still call the VSC system a safety system and think it was a dumb move, but it at least makes a little sense.
CARspec had the opportunity to diagnose and repair a 2007 4Runner recently that wouldn’t engage 4WD high or low – the shift indicator would only blink and the car remained rear-wheel/2WD. Here are our notes on the diagnostics and the repair:

Is the transfer case actuator on a Toyota 4WD?
The 4WD module has no self-diagnostics and the repair manual is little help in the way of diagnosing transfer case actuator/front differential automatic disconnecting systems.
