Is it normal for cars to take longer to start in the cold?
It’s a common occurrence as low temperatures can cause your car battery to produce less current, making it that much harder for your engine to turn over in the morning. The cold can also stop your engine oil from flowing as well as it should, which puts even more strain on the battery.

This is the first winter I have ever had the truck and we live in Kentucky. It’s been under 20 degrees for the past month or more and that is when the problem started. I start the truck with no problem, but soon as it starts, it revs to about 2100 rpm, then falls back to normal rpm after 5 seconds or so.

They added it to his oil, ran it for 15 minutes, drained the oil, changed the filter and refilled with oil. About a week ago, my truck started taking a long time to start while cranking. So far, it has started every time. However, it takes anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds to start. It used to start after a couple of seconds. If I turn off the ignition and start it again, it doesn’t seem to take as long to start, but still longer than usual.
When to run the fuel pump before cranking the engine?
Some systems will run the fuel pump for a short period when the drivers door is opened or when the key is turned to the ignition stop before being turned to crank. If this isn’t happening for some reason, you may be having to wait until the fuel pump provides enough pressure at the fuel rail to start the vehicle. My vote is for the injectors.
