Is driving with broken wipers illegal?
Driving with faulty wiper blades isn’t just potentially dangerous, it’s also illegal but as many as two thirds of drivers don’t know when they should replace them. Wipers that don’t clear the screen properly affect drivers’ visibility and count as an MOT fail.
Are front and rear wiper blades the same?
The passenger and driver’s side wiper blades are the same size on some vehicles, while on others they are vastly different. It is not necessary to take the wiper arm off to change the rear wiper blade for all vehicle types. For most drivers, it’s most appropriate to replace front and rear wiper blades twice a year.
Is a rear wiper delete legal?

Is it legal to drive one wiper?
If the car has been fitted with one wiper it is ok but if it is fitted with two and one is taken off then it would fail… plus it would make it tricky to drive around when you can’t see around the car.
Does it matter what kind of windshield wipers you get?
Wiper blades are vehicle specific. The passenger and driver’s side wiper blades are the same size on some vehicles, while on others they are vastly different. Only replace your wiper blades with the size of blades specified by the manufacturer to ensure proper fitment and to prevent damage.
What does the A and B mean on wiper blades?
Blades with a “B” part number have a greater curvature specifically designed to wrap around the passenger side window for greater visibility and clarity.” A is for drivers side (sometimes passenger side as well if specified). B is for passenger side. The B blades has a greater curvature to better sweep the windshield.
Will a rear wiper delete an MOT?
Yes your car will pass an MOT with a rear wiper delete as it is not an MOT requirement.
Is a faulty rear wiper an MOT failure?
If the blades are damaged and don’t clear the windscreen effectively they could cause scratch damage to the windscreen and may result in an MOT test failure too. It may be worth checking your rear windscreen and wiper too for any damage, even though your vehicle can’t fail its MOT test for this.
