How much power does a Honda VTR1000F Firestorm have?
Tough and with no major issues: mile tunes of cans/filter/re-jet can see rear-wheel power head to around 110-115bhp. High-mile machines with more than 40k on the clocks are worth asking if the cam-chain and tensioner have been replaced.
Can a new battery outlast a 1997 VTR?
There is that – any new battery will probably outlast the bike now (although my VTR has only covered 11k miles from ’97!), especially if I Optimate it from new, and isolate it in the winter.
How much fuel does a Honda VTR use?
VTRs gulp down fuel, so you’ll only get around 90-120 miles tops to a tank. Reserve isn’t generous either (2.5 litres) with only 20 or so miles before you have to push. Later tanks can be fitted on the bike and Harris Performance once made a 24-litre tank – but these are rare!
What kind of battery do I need for my Firestorm?
I’d recommend an OEM type battery too, which for my Firestorm is a Yuasa. For a little more cranking power some owners fit a Varadero battery which is 15mm taller and requires removal of the battery box top, you may/may not wish to do this. The Varadero battery is 12amp hr, whereas the Firestorm battery is 10amp hr.

What kind of bike is the Honda Firestorm?
Comments: The original FireStorm (or SuperHawk in the USA) was a simple V-twin sportsbike. In the UK/Europe the bike was updated in 2001 with a larger fuel tank (up three litres to 19) a new LCD dash layout, Honda’s anti-theft HISS (Honda Ignition Security System) and mildly easier going ergonomics thanks to changes to the bars.

What are the fuel mixture screws for a VTR1000?
Pilot fuel mixture screw settings, float level (but, you’ve already “fixed” the fuel level in Step 3!) AND pilot jet size are the primary sources of mixture delivery during 4000 rpm steady state cruise operation. If lean surging is encountered, richen mixture screws (turn out) in 1/2 turn increments.
Is the Honda VTR1000 Firestorm still in good condition?
With a grunty power delivery that makes it a joy on the road, a VTR1000 is still a compelling conveyance. The 1997 bike below is in typical good used condition and has a strong engine and slick gearbox matched with brakes that could do with a rebuild and fuelling that could be improved with some dyno time to match the booming race cans.
Are there any problems with the Honda Firestorm?
Great but not perfect. The Firestorm is well built and sturdy but problems have been reported with cam chain tensioners, failing water pumps and corroding downpipes. In the main, however, keeping it clean and serviced should ensure years of trouble-free service and most Honda VTR1000F Firestorms are in pretty good nick.
How big is the radiator on a Honda Firestorm?
It may look conservative, but the Firestorm is anything but conventional. It uses 90s-spec carbs (at 48mm the biggest ever fitted to a production bike) and has side-mounted radiators to help keep the wheelbase short to negate the inherent length of a V-twin. To help with this, the swingarm is mounted on the back of the engine rather than the frame.
What’s the fuel capacity on a Honda VTR1000?
2001: An overhaul increased Honda VTR1000F Firestorm’s fuel capacity to 19 litres, raised the bars for a more upright riding position and installed a new HISS security system. There were also minor tweaks with both suspension and carb/ignition settings plus the dash was redesigned and new, smaller indicators installed.
