How does dermagraft work?
Dermagraft delivers a collagen-rich living human dermal matrix to the prepared ulcer wound bed. Metabolically active fibroblasts are distributed throughout the Dermagraft and retain the capacity for secreting a variety of regulatory and structural proteins.
What is Apligraf used for?
The tissue-engineered skin used (Apligraf) is a bilayered human skin equivalent developed from foreskin. It is the only Food and Drug Administration–approved skin equivalent of its kind. It is approved for the treatment of venous ulcers of the lower extremities.

How much does apligraf cost?
Apligraf is supplied as a circular disk approximately 7.5 cm in diameter and is intended for single-use. The cost of Apligraf is $1,000 to $1,200 per use. In a 2000 study by Attilasoy, a higher percentage of wounds were healed with Apligraf (55 percent) compared to the control (40 percent).
How long can apligraf stay on?
Apligraf ® that has been fenestrated and applied directly to the wound bed. It is held in place with steri-strips. The primary dressing is kept in place for 5–7 days, while secondary dressings may be changed more frequently (depending on the dressing type).
