Keep your oil new as possible if its your daily driver. You are going to do more damage to the cam BUT its gonna need to be replaced anyway. If you cant do it yourself then I would recommmend a new cam with new set of LS7 lifters from Texas Speed and Performance.

You will have to have the vehicle tuned to remove the AFM if you go this route. You can pick up a Diablo tuner used on here usually for a couple of hundred bucks or less. And a garage experienced with the conversion. No GM dealer service depts. You can remove the valve covers and look for evidence of lifter/camshaft failure.
