Well seeing as you bought the car used and already 7yrs old, why not put a used transmission in and be done with it. My 2010 with CVT weighs in at 4400lbs for the past year. Owned it for 3.5yrs now, no transmission issues, except one overheat but it was time for CVT fluid to be changed anyways.

See all problems of the 2010 Jeep Patriot . Numerious cvt transmission failure / overheat at highway speeds, very unsafe due to deceleration. Started in Aug 2016 and happens monthly anytime more than 45 minutes of driving. The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Patriot.
