Can you camp anywhere in Kauai?

To be frank (not my real name), this road is not for you. From you own description, it has many scary parts for you. Hwy 550 up from Waimea goes very close to a steep edge in many places. Those areas all have guardrails, but some nearby places don’t.

Waimea Canyon is closer to the Poipu area but farther away from Kapaa and the Princeville/Hanalei areas. But wherever you’re staying on the island, a trip to the canyon is well worth it. The main road, Waimea Canyon Drive, leads you to the main overlook and several more lookouts farther up the road.
